One day I won’t have to leave
We won’t have to span the gap with voice notes
Bridge the gulf with devices in palm
I will hold your hand
Just the way you like it
Fidgety, sliding our palms together
Locking and unlocking our fingers
Not our phones
Resting our busy thumbs
In a circle of fingers
Wile the fire purrs
And dawn breaks open like an egg
All around us
Birthing a new day.
