Written the morning after the ‘Super Blue Moon’ Lunar Eclipse

Lune
She rises, a pirate coin above the horizon,
To hang in space, bright and defiant
For the spending of a night
In the watching.
At her fullness, in ancient times,
No dark deeds dare occur
Under plain sight of the gods
Before we forgot their names
Her light, like a waffer thin on my
Tongue, metallic, the coin for the
Ferryman’s watery crossing
The sky a wealth of silver
Selenian serenity,
Keep your face turned to me
Tidally-locked, pocked with
Meteor impacts, in a spiral dance.
She’s slowly leaving us, did you know?
Twirling around in minutely
Increasing elipses that
Spell the end for solar eclipses
The gravity yearning of oceans
Echoed in our own water-bodies
We greet with a lunatic howl
Her liquid luminousity
Last night our shadow cast
Her into blood darkness
Earthly atmosphere set the sun
Of her reflected glory
We seek science for explanation
Paganism provides meaning
Congregate for animal comfort
Passing briefly through an endless night.
