Heartspring

Lots of folk lost their keys this weekend
Dancing in the dirt
Was it your laugh that unlocked me?
Your hands, your smirk?
We didn’t quite fit, and I loved it
Fidgit, shifting, stroking
Finding soul stillness in the endless moving
Chest so full of bubbles, I could hiccup butterflies

Was it your weird that got me?
Your lips, your eyes?
Boundaries, I realise
Limits we respect
Make us safe, empowered,
To live without regret

Was it your spirit: something I can’t touch or see?
Your aura, energy?
We went to the edge of the boundary wall
Snugs in a nest,
Rest my head on your breast
The edge of the last village,
The edge of unknown.
Now we wake to normality
What will grow from the seeds we’ve sown?

Was it your voice that released me?
Your dancing, your way?
You’ve lit a fire in me that nothing can unstart
Save your own sweet water, one day…
How did this occur,
What light touch gave the spur
To my horse heart.

Was it your open?
The fact: you loved me back
That led us down this track of feeling
Frightening joy, gentle grieving
Scared to fully believe in
I don’t WANT to be leaving!
But this story we’re living and writing and weaving
Leads us far, far apart,
At least for a season…
