You came from the ends of the earth
To write me that poem
I know how much it took
As you gnawed on words and worry
The bones of this lived experience
Enfleshed in metaphor analogous
To nourishing broth, hearty.
You came from the ends of the earth
To type out that poem
I know how much it took
To share your secret scribbles scratched
In chicken talk, to let them walk
Proud and upright on a flower-pressed page
Centre staging your perspective
Making known your inner workings
I know how much it took
I am gravy: deeply, richly, thankful.
