Poems for Piper

1.
Taking up space
Sprouting like a bean
Take the warm place
In my heart you are seen
It’s time,
You’ve slept through cold months
Now we throw our socks off
Run to where the trees breathe
I’m grateful for the birds that tell us
How to listen
And the undergrowth that tells us
How to grow.

2.
I was walking in the colour of blue
Wondering what it might feel like
To be close to you
I’m no longer singing the blues
I’ve got plenty to do
But make the time to
Walk around in my underwear
Thinking of you.
Glowing with a fresh spring new
As our bodies go insane
And risk things we wouldn’t dare
I’m thinking of you in your underwear
In my underwear

3.
Shall we turn on this tap
To this I am sold
I believe in you
Effortlessly
And suddenly
I’m grateful for this old country
And this new grind
That led me to find
A fast fleeting love
That’s ringing bells
Up in my heart
So recently chewed up like
Bacon rind

4.
Things have been rough
We live, we love, we try so hard
But I can see you from here
Give up my lonely TV screen
The only thing worth having
Is this moment right now
Right now it’s with you
Naked in the grass
Don’t stop the spark
Of careless flames that held us speachless
We took our chance in a splash
As we take our breath away
Run to where the trees breathe
And our hands make
Firecrackers explode
behind each others’ eyes
Remind us that we’re human

5.
Lost sleep last night
Hoping nothing breaks
But hearts can break
So spirits don’t.
Bold and capable again
Give up your lonely TV screen
And come unwind with me
Glow a rich warm amber glow
From deep in your belly.
